Physician Assistant

A Physician Assistant (PA) is a health professional licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. PAs are nationally board certified, as well as licensed in the state in which they practice. In the State of Massachusetts PAs are able to diagnose and treat illnesses and prescribe medications. At Boston Hand to Shoulder the PA's work closely with the physicians in the care of their patients. The Physician Assistants have a special interest and training in conditions of the hand and upper extremity. Their role at HSPC includes obtaining a history and performing a physical examination, casting, suturing, performing nerve conduction studies, prescribing medications and giving injections. Working closely with the physicians, the PAs provide some of the post-operative care as well as communications with patients.
